‘The Daily Show’ Jokes About Canada Taking Advantage of Trump’s Parade

by Hazel

Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” took aim at former President Donald Trump’s upcoming military parade on Wednesday, joking that the event creates the perfect opportunity for Canada to invade the United States.

The segment, led by co-host Desi Lydic and correspondent Ronny Chieng, poked fun at the planned celebration, which will mark Trump’s 79th birthday, the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, and Flag Day. The parade is expected to take place Saturday in Washington, D.C.

While providing a satirical breakdown of the event, Lydic expressed concern over the parade’s display of military might, saying, “This is what dictators do — display their military strength to intimidate everyone.” Chieng, who appeared to report “live” from the capital, offered a tongue-in-cheek response, suggesting the U.S. would be vulnerable due to the large concentration of armed forces in one place.

“This is actually a win-win for both sides,” Chieng said. “MAGA gets a cool parade, and for the liberals, having a whole military and all our weapons in one place means the rest of America is unguarded — which gives a sane nation the chance to come in and take over.”

Chieng then pulled out his phone to “call” Canada, jokingly offering the country a shot at becoming the 51st U.S. state.

“Hey, Canada. Hey, what are you doing Saturday?” he asked. “Would you like America to be your 51st state?”

The skit comes amid criticism of the parade, with many observers comparing it to military demonstrations held in countries like Russia and North Korea. The event has also drawn scrutiny for its cost, which is estimated to be between $25 million and $45 million, according to Politico.

Set to include 6,600 soldiers, 25 M1 Abrams main battle tanks, and other military vehicles, the parade reflects Trump’s long-standing interest in showcasing American military power in grand public fashion. Critics argue it risks politicizing the armed forces and echoing authoritarian practices.

“The Daily Show’s” satire also referenced Trump’s prior remarks about making Canada the 51st U.S. state — a comment that has drawn both ridicule and concern in international circles.

The parade is scheduled for Saturday in Washington, D.C.
