Khloé Kardashian’s long-standing fear of whales recently became the source of an innocent prank by her 7-year-old daughter, True Thompson.
On Thursday, Kardashian shared a video on her Instagram Stories revealing that True had attached a bedazzled whale charm to her Louis Vuitton purse. The Good American co-founder, who has openly discussed her phobia of whales, expressed a mix of amusement and exasperation over her daughter’s playful gesture.
“True is really into charms and loves accessorizing her backpack. Apparently, she also enjoys accessorizing my purse,” Kardashian explained, zooming in on the blue, jewel-encrusted whale keychain dangling from her cherry-themed designer bag. “She knows and she does this. We have unicorns, hearts, puppies on charms—everything but she gives me a whale. I can’t wait until she gets out of school so I can ask her, ‘Why the whale?’”
Khloé has been candid about her fear of whales, describing it as an irrational phobia. In a post from September 2023 on X (formerly Twitter), she reflected:
“This has been a phobia of mine for years. I don’t want anything bad to happen to whales and I know the phobia is totally irrational, but we don’t pick our phobias. I low-key have a fear of the ocean, but a whale I can’t even look at, it freaks me out so much.”
This revelation coincided with the release of the premiere episode of The Kardashians Season 4, where Khloé faced her fear during a family trip to Cabo. From the safety of their vacation home, she peered through binoculars at the ocean and nervously questioned the presence of whales near the shore.
“Why is this whale season? What are they doing? Mating? I don’t know. That’s sick. And why do they come so close to shore? That’s way too close for my comfort,” she remarked. Moments later, after her sister Kim pointed out the whales, Khloé recoiled, dropped the binoculars, and screamed in fright.
In more joyful news, Khloé recently celebrated True’s seventh birthday with a vibrant party featuring neon “Rainbow Friends” decorations and glow-in-the-dark slime. The mother of two, who shares True and her 2-year-old son Tatum with ex Tristan Thompson, documented the festivities on Instagram Stories.
